Is FaxTerra really free to send a fax?
Yes. Every FaxTerra account gets 10 free pages per month to the US and Canada. No credit card required. If you need more, credit packs start at $1.99 for 10 pages.
What file types can I fax with FaxTerra?
FaxTerra accepts PDF and image files: JPG, PNG, HEIC/HEIF, TIFF (multi-page supported), GIF, BMP, and WebP. Images are automatically converted and optimized for fax delivery, and you can preview every page before sending. Word documents should be exported to PDF first.
Can I send faxes internationally with FaxTerra?
Yes. FaxTerra credit packs and subscriptions support faxing to 27 countries including the UK, Germany, France, Australia, and Japan. Free accounts are limited to the US and Canada.
Does FaxTerra put ads or branding on my fax?
No. Every fax sent through FaxTerra is clean and professional — no ads, no watermarks, no branding. This applies to free and paid faxes equally.
Phone Numbers & Replies
What number does my fax come from when I send with FaxTerra?
If you have a FaxTerra subscription with a dedicated fax number, your faxes are sent from that number — the recipient sees it as the caller ID. Without a subscription, faxes are sent from a shared number that isn't tied to your account.
Can I receive a fax reply after sending a fax online?
Yes, if you have a dedicated fax number through a FaxTerra subscription. Your outgoing faxes show your number as the caller ID, so when the recipient faxes back, the reply arrives in your inbox automatically. Without a dedicated number, faxes are sent from a shared number and replies can't be routed to you.
Do doctors, government agencies, and courts reply by fax?
Yes. Many fax workflows involve a back-and-forth: you send a form, the other party sends a response. Doctor's offices, state agencies, courts, insurance companies, and the IRS often reply by fax. Without a dedicated fax number, you'd need to call them and provide a separate fax number to receive the response. With a FaxTerra subscription, sending and receiving happen through the same number.
How do I get a dedicated fax number on FaxTerra?
Subscribe to any FaxTerra plan: Starter ($4.99/month, 60 total pages), Business ($9.99/month, 210 pages, 1-year inbox retention), or Pro ($29.99/month, 1,010 pages). You choose your number during signup — it's active immediately.
Can I choose my fax number area code on FaxTerra?
Yes. During FaxTerra subscription checkout, you can search for available numbers by area code and pick the one you want.
What happens to my FaxTerra fax number if I cancel?
Your number stays active until the end of your billing period. After that, it's released. FaxTerra doesn't charge cancellation fees. If you resubscribe later, you'll get a new number.
Receiving Faxes
How do I receive faxes online with FaxTerra?
With a FaxTerra subscription, you get a dedicated fax number. When someone sends a fax to that number, it arrives in your FaxTerra inbox as a PDF. You also get an email notification immediately.
How many faxes can I receive per month on FaxTerra?
Your monthly allowance covers sending and receiving combined, including the 10 free pages every account gets: Starter has 60 pages a month, Business 210, and Pro 1,010. If you reach your limit, incoming faxes are still saved — access is paused until your next billing cycle or until you upgrade your plan.
Can I receive faxes on FaxTerra without a subscription?
No. Receiving faxes on FaxTerra requires a dedicated fax number, which is included with every subscription (Starter, Business, and Pro). Free and credit-pack accounts can only send.
How does FaxTerra notify me when a fax arrives?
FaxTerra emails you the moment a fax arrives. The fax itself lands as a PDF in your FaxTerra inbox, where you can view or download it — on the web or in the FaxTerra iPhone app, which also notifies you by push.
Pricing & Billing
Do I need a subscription to send a fax on FaxTerra?
No. You can send faxes on FaxTerra with a free account (10 pages/month) or by purchasing a credit pack. Subscriptions are for users who want a dedicated fax number to send from and receive on.
Do FaxTerra credits expire?
No. FaxTerra credits never expire. Buy them when you need them, use them whenever.
What happens when I use all my included FaxTerra subscription pages?
You can buy a credit pack to keep sending, or upgrade your plan. FaxTerra has no surprise overage charges — you choose when to buy more.
Is FaxTerra HIPAA compliant?
Yes, on the Healthcare plans. Covered entities sign a Business Associate Agreement (BAA) at signup, and every Healthcare tier (from $19.99/month) includes per-document encryption, PHI-free notification emails, and a 6-year audit log. The Free, Starter, Business, and Pro plans do not include a BAA and are not intended for protected health information.
Can I cancel my FaxTerra subscription anytime?
Yes. Cancel anytime, self-serve, in the app: a Cancel subscription button on the Plans page and in Settings. No contracts, no phone calls, no cancellation fees, and no external billing portal to hunt through. Your fax number remains active until the end of your billing period. Subscriptions purchased inside the iPhone app are managed through your App Store subscription settings.
International Usage
Can I use FaxTerra from outside the US?
Yes. FaxTerra works from any country. Sending depends only on the destination number, never on where you are — so you can fax to 27 countries from anywhere in the world. A subscription also gives you a US or Canadian number that receives replies in your inbox no matter where you live, which is what most international users need for corresponding with US agencies like the IRS, USCIS, or banks.
Can I get a fax number for a country other than the US or Canada?
Not currently. Dedicated FaxTerra numbers are US or Canadian. You can still send faxes to 27 countries, but the number you receive on is US or Canadian — which is what most international users need for corresponding with US institutions.
