FaxTerra

Fax Your State Benefits Paperwork

A renewal, a verification request, a fact-finding form with a deadline on it, and no fax machine. Find the office that takes it in your state, the number to call first, and what to put on every page. 10 pages free every month.

Find your state

Each page carries that state's own agency fax lines, read on the agency's page and linked to it. 51 states so far, covering 237 published lines.

How it works

Find the office holding your case

Open your state below. Each page lists the office for Medicaid and CHIP, SNAP and TANF, unemployment, state leave benefits, and state tax, as the state names them.

Call the number in the row

A short call confirms the fax line and whether that office is the one holding your case. Agency fax lines change, and some stop answering.

Put your case number on every page, then send

Upload the pages, enter the fax number, and send. An agency that cannot match a page to a case has to set it aside, which is the slowest path through any office.

Keep the confirmation

The delivery confirmation is your record that the pages were transmitted before the deadline on your letter.

Questions

How do I fax my Medicaid or SNAP paperwork without a fax machine?

Open your state's page below, find the office that holds your case, and call the number in its row to confirm the fax line. Then upload your pages from your phone or computer, enter that number, and send. Every account gets 10 free pages a month, and a page to a US fax number counts as one.

What do I put on every page I fax to a benefits agency?

Your case or client number, your name, and your date of birth, unless the agency asks for something else. Each state page quotes its own agencies on this, because they differ: some ask for the last four digits of a social security number only, some ask for a head-of-household name, and some publish a cover sheet they want on top.

Why does my state page say the program runs through county offices?

Because in some states Medicaid and SNAP are administered locally, so there is no statewide fax to give you. The row links the state’s own directory of local offices, where your county’s number is published. A number from another county will not reach your caseworker.

One of the offices takes no fax at all. Is that right?

Yes, and that row quotes the agency saying so. A few state departments, including some tax departments, publish no central fax and tell you to use the number printed on the letter they sent you, or to upload instead. Faxing an office that does not accept faxes loses the document with no record that you sent it.

Is sending it free?

On FaxTerra, yes. A renewal or verification packet of up to 10 pages sends free, with no credit card. Free pages reset on the 1st of each month. If a second packet in the same month takes you past 10 pages, a Lite pack is $1.99 for 10 pages, with no subscription.

How do I prove I sent it before my deadline?

Keep the delivery confirmation. It records that the pages were transmitted to the number you entered and when, which is what a caseworker asks for when a document is missing from a file.

Where do these fax numbers come from?

Every number on every state page was read on the agency’s own page and is linked to it. We publish no number that appears only on a directory site. 51 states have pages so far, covering 211 agencies and 237 published fax lines.

FaxTerra is a fax service, not a benefits agency. Your state and the office holding your case set the rules and decide it; follow their instructions where they differ from anything here.
