Does SimplePractice Have Fax?
No. SimplePractice’s help center says it does not support faxing and has no plans to add it, and it suggests a third-party service when you have to fax. You can download a document from a client’s Files tab and send it from a separate fax service.

SimplePractice’s help center answers the question in Comparing SimplePractice features by plan, as we read it on November 3, 2026:
“SimplePractice doesn’t currently support eFaxing. While we don’t have plans to add this feature at this time, you can use a third-party HIPAA compliant eFax solution if faxing documentation is required.”
The same article says SimplePractice “doesn’t currently offer a public-facing API”, so a fax service cannot plug into it directly. Sending a fax means moving the document yourself.
How to fax a document from SimplePractice
- Open the client’s Files tab in SimplePractice, click the 3 horizontal dots next to the file, and choose Download. SimplePractice says the options vary by the file’s type and status.
- Upload the file to your fax service and enter the destination number. Read that number off the request in front of you.
- Send it and keep the delivery confirmation.
- When a fax comes back, download the PDF from your fax inbox and upload it to the client’s Files tab, so the chart holds it.
A fax service that stores client documents needs its own BAA if your practice is a covered entity, separate from any agreement you hold with SimplePractice. HIPAA fax for therapists goes through when that applies.
