Fax Your New Mexico Benefits Paperwork

The fax line each New Mexico agency publishes for Medicaid and CHIP, SNAP, unemployment, state leave benefits, and state tax, with what that office asks you to put on every page.

10 pages free every month. No credit card.

Where to fax it

3 of the 4 New Mexico agencies below publish a fax line for their documents, and one publishes only a line for a particular form or an appeal. Call the number in the row before you send.

The office asks for your case number on every page. Put it on every page you send, and keep the fax receipt. An office that cannot match a page to a case has to set it aside, and the receipt is what proves you sent it before the deadline.

Call before you send. Agency fax lines change and some stop answering. A short call confirms the number and whether that office is the one holding your case.

Medicaid and Turquoise Care eligibility
Income Support Division, Health Care Authority

The New Mexico Health Care Authority accepts a faxed Application for Assistance once Section One carries the applicant's name, address and signature, and that is what sets the application filing date.

The New Mexico Health Care Authority states a maximum of 45 days to decide most Medicaid applications, and 90 days for Medicaid based on a disability.

SNAP, cash assistance and LIHEAP
Income Support Division, Health Care Authority

A faxed SNAP application is accepted once Section One of the Application for Assistance carries the applicant's name, address and signature, and the New Mexico Health Care Authority asks that the rest be filled in for a faster determination.

The New Mexico Health Care Authority states that a SNAP applicant is asked in for an interview in about ten days and gets a letter within 30 days saying whether the application was approved.

Unemployment insurance claims and appeals
Unemployment Insurance Division, Department of Workforce Solutions

The Appeals Tribunal of the New Mexico Department of Workforce Solutions takes no more than 10 pages per fax, and asks that every page carry the claimant's name, the appeal issue ID number, the date and time of the hearing, the judge's name, and a page number.

The New Mexico Department of Workforce Solutions mails the Notice of Hearing to each party and also shows it in the claimant's Unemployment Insurance online account at www.jobs.dws.nm.gov, which is where an appeal's status is checked.

State tax
Taxation and Revenue Department

A written protest to the Secretary of the New Mexico Taxation and Revenue Department must carry the taxpayer's name and identification number, a social security number for an individual or a New Mexico identification, combined reporting system or federal employer identification number for a business, along with the tax involved, the grounds, and the relief requested.

The New Mexico Taxation and Revenue Department states that a paper return claiming a refund takes 8 to 12 weeks to process, against 6 to 8 weeks for one filed electronically, and asks that nobody call before that window is up.

Questions

What do I put on every page I fax to a New Mexico agency?

Your case or client number, your name, and your date of birth, unless the row below says the office asks for something else. A page that arrives without a case number has to be matched by hand, which is the slowest path through any agency.

Can I fax a New Mexico agency without a fax machine?

Yes. Upload the pages from your phone or computer, enter the office's fax number, and send. The agency receives it as a fax. Every account gets 10 free pages a month, and a page to a US fax number counts as one.

What if the fax line does not answer?

Call the number in that office's row before you try again. A line that rings and never connects will not start working on a retry, and the office can tell you whether the number changed or whether it wants the document another way.

Is this an official New Mexico site?

No. FaxTerra is a fax service. New Mexico and the office you are writing to set the rules and decide your case; every number and requirement here is linked to the agency's own page under official sources.
