Email to Fax
Email the document to the fax number at fax.faxterra.com and it is sent as soon as the email arrives. There is no preview, so check the number before you send. Sending by email comes with paid plans.
To get faxes in your email instead, see fax to email.
How to send a fax by email
- 01Turn on Send Faxes by Email once, in Settings.
- 02Write a new email from the address you sign in to FaxTerra with.
- 03In the To line, put the fax number before @fax.faxterra.com, such as 2065550183@fax.faxterra.com. Dashes and dots are fine. For another country, start with + or 00 and the country code.
- 04Attach the document as a PDF or an image, and send. We reply to your email when the fax is delivered or can’t be sent.
Sending without a preview
To see every page as the receiving machine prints it, send from faxterra.com or the app. Uploading is free within 10 pages a month on every account.
What to know before you email a fax
What gets faxed
Only the files attached to the email, joined in the order they are attached. Files that aren’t a PDF or an image are left out, and so is a file shared as a link. The text of the email isn’t faxed, and images placed in the body, such as a logo in your signature, aren’t either. The subject line becomes the message on a cover page. The cover counts as a page. Leave the subject empty to send no cover.
One number per email
One email sends one fax. An email addressed to more than one fax number, Cc and Bcc included, isn’t sent, so send a separate email for each number.
Who can send
Only email from your sign-in address is sent, and only when your email service lets us confirm the message came from you. Gmail does. When we can’t confirm it, we don’t send the fax, and if sending by email is on for you we tell you at your sign-in address. Email from any other address isn’t sent and gets no reply.
Who turns it on
Each person on an account turns it on for themselves, and it works in one account at a time.
Sending by email comes with paid plans, from $4.99 a month, and an emailed fax uses your account’s pages like any other fax. Compare the plans.
Questions
Can I send a fax from Gmail?
Yes, on a paid plan. Turn on sending by email in Settings, then email the document from the Gmail address you sign in with to the fax number at fax.faxterra.com. On any account, download the attachment and upload it at faxterra.com/send within your free pages.
Can I see the pages before an emailed fax goes?
No. It is sent as soon as the email arrives. To see every page first, upload the document at faxterra.com/send or in the app, where the first 10 pages a month are free.
Is email to fax free?
Uploading the document is free within 10 pages a month on every account. Emailing it straight to the fax number comes with paid plans, which are on pricing.
What files can I email?
PDFs and images: JPG, PNG, HEIC, TIFF, GIF, BMP and WebP. Save a Word document as a PDF first. A password-protected PDF isn’t sent by email, because there’s no way to enter the password; send it from the web or the app and type the password there.
Is sending by email available with the HIPAA add-on?
No. An email travels outside the protections a Business Associate Agreement covers, so send from the web or the app. The add-on is on the HIPAA fax page.
Can I receive faxes by email?
Yes, that is the other direction. With a fax number of your own, every fax sent to you lands in your inbox and an email tells you the moment it arrives. Fax to email covers how it works.
