How to Cancel SRFax and Keep Your Number

What SRFax’s terms say about your number

SRFax’s terms of service, published on its security and privacy pages, say two things that matter here:

• “You agree that you are not the owner of any SRFax Number.”
• “On termination of the Service we may allocate any SRFax Numbers to another customer without reference to you.”

The terms contain no clause on moving a number out, and nothing like the restriction in eFax’s agreement. SRFax still answers the transfer request when it arrives, so run the check on this page before you commit.

The order of steps

1. Check the number. Enter it in the check on this page and choose SRFax as the provider.
2. Collect your account details. Copy the account details from SRFax exactly as it holds them, and keep a recent invoice.
3. Start the transfer. Request it with your new provider while SRFax is still open. Moving a US or Canada local number into FaxTerra is free on every paid plan.
4. Wait for the move. Keep paying SRFax until your new provider confirms the number is live there.
5. Close the SRFax account. Save your faxes first, then close it as described below.

Expect the transfer to take from about a business day to a few weeks, since the provider you are leaving sets the pace. Switching fax providers covers what makes a request fail.

How to close an SRFax account

SRFax’s support article “How do I cancel my account?” says there are two ways in which you can close your account:

• Log in and go to My Account, then Close Account, and answer its short questions.
• Create a new support ticket saying you want to close the account.

Either way, SRFax sends an email confirming the closure. Its terms add that a termination notice follows its verification procedures, which may require you to contact SRFax by phone to confirm the notice. SRFax’s support line is (866) 554-0263.

Disconnecting the fax line is a different act. SRFax says that with a disconnect “you are only preventing faxes from being received”, and the account stays open.

If the number does not move

A rejected request usually names one field, and correcting it and resubmitting is routine. If SRFax will not release the number at all, get a new fax number while SRFax still answers, put it on your forms and letterhead, and close SRFax once the old number goes quiet.
