Fidelity does not publish a retail fax number

This is the fact that decides everything else on the page. Fidelity’s own mailing-address page, phone-number overview, transfer-assets page and forms library list zero fax numbers for personal investors. There is no general Fidelity fax that reaches a service representative, and a number offered by a directory site is not coming from Fidelity.

What Fidelity does publish sits on individual forms, each tied to one processing unit. Stock Plan Services takes outbound share transfers on its own line. Workplace has a line for the Registered Investment Advisor authorization form. Fidelity Institutional runs an advisor-channel line and says in the same document that unsolicited faxes are not accepted on it.

The practical rule: the number that matters is the one printed on the form in front of you. Retail transfer and rollover paperwork routes to mail or to the document upload in your Fidelity account, and faxing it to one of the lines above sends it to a queue that is not expecting it.

What people fax to Fidelity

The paperwork that still moves by fax is the paperwork that carries a signature and a dollar amount:

  • Stock plan transfer of assets, moving vested shares from an employer plan to an outside broker
  • Registered Investment Advisor authorization, giving an advisor access to a workplace account
  • Advisor-channel account paperwork, sent by the advisor rather than the account holder
  • Workplace transfer, rollover and exchange forms, where the plan’s own form names a fax destination

A transfer form plus a statement page and an ID copy is usually four to eight pages. Read your form’s return instructions before you assume fax is one of the options: several Fidelity retail forms name mail or upload and no fax at all.

These lines take documents in, they do not answer

Every Fidelity fax line is an intake line. Your pages land in a processing queue, a person works them in turn, and any response comes back by mail, by phone, or in your account. Nothing is faxed back, and there is no fax acknowledgment that your form arrived.

That gap is what the delivery receipt covers. FaxTerra records the moment the receiving machine accepted your pages, with the time and the page count, and that receipt is the evidence you keep. For anything past delivery, call the Fidelity number for the department your form names.

Verify the number before you send

A transfer form carries your name, your account number and often the last four of your Social Security number. Confirm the destination first:

  • Use the fax number printed on the Fidelity form you downloaded, not a number from a search result. Fidelity prints it in the return-instructions block.
  • If your form names no fax number, that form is not meant to be faxed. Use the route it does name.
  • If a Fidelity representative gives you a number over the phone, use theirs and note who gave it to you.
  • Never fax wire instructions, a full bank routing and account pair, or login credentials. Wire fraud starts with a document that looks routine, and a sent fax cannot be recalled.

How to fax Fidelity without a fax machine

Create a free FaxTerra account with an email address. Upload your signed form as a PDF or as photos taken with your phone, enter the fax number your form names, and send. Delivery confirmation arrives by email.

A short form sends free within your monthly free pages. A longer transfer packet is covered by a one-time credit pack from about 10¢ a page, and if you send packets like this more than once, the Starter plan at $4.99 a month includes 50 pages. For accepted file types and page limits, see how to send a fax. Faxing financial documents covers the wider process, and the Charles Schwab guide is a useful comparison because Schwab prints one intake number across its retail forms instead of one per department.

FAQ

Frequently Asked Questions

What is the Fidelity fax number for customer service?

There is not one. Fidelity publishes no general customer-service fax for personal investors. The numbers it does publish are department-specific and printed on individual forms, such as the Stock Plan Services transfer line and the Workplace advisor-authorization line.

Can I fax my Fidelity transfer or rollover form?

Only if the form itself names a fax number. Retail transfer-of-assets and rollover forms generally route to mail or to the document upload inside your Fidelity account. Workplace plan forms vary by plan, so read the return-instructions block on your own copy.

What about the number I found on a directory site?

A number circulated on aggregator sites as “the Fidelity fax” appears on no fidelity.com page. Use the number printed on your form, or one of the departmental lines above: (877) 236-4162 for stock plan transfers out, (877) 330-2476 for the RIA authorization form.

Will Fidelity fax me back?

No. These are intake lines. Fidelity responds by mail, by phone, or through your account. Keep your delivery receipt as the record that the document arrived.

Is FaxTerra affiliated with Fidelity?

No. FaxTerra is an independent online fax service. We deliver your document to the fax number you enter and confirm when it arrives. We are not affiliated with Fidelity and cannot see or act on your account.
