IBKR does not publish a support fax

Interactive Brokers built its account servicing around the Client Portal, and its current support pages list no US fax number. The only fax numbers still in the open are the ones printed in the return-instructions block of individual forms, and each names its department.

Those forms carry dates. The account-management forms are from 2011 and the futures transfer form from 2019, so the numbers are what IBKR printed rather than what IBKR promotes today. The forms also offer a second route: scanned email to account management, which is the alternative IBKR names alongside fax on the same page.

The practical order of preference is the Client Portal first, then the route your form names. Do not treat either number as a general support line, because neither one is.

What people fax to Interactive Brokers

The paperwork that names fax is the paperwork the portal cannot complete:

• Futures account transfer, moving open positions in from another broker
• Close account requests
• Internal transfers between identically titled accounts
• Free-of-payment withdrawals of securities
• ACATS paper signature pages, when the delivering broker insists on wet ink
• Transfer-on-death beneficiary distributions

These forms are short, typically two to five pages, which fits inside the free monthly allowance on a FaxTerra account.

Both numbers are department intake. Pages arrive, a processor works them, and IBKR responds in the Client Portal, by email, or by phone. Nothing comes back by fax and there is no fax acknowledgment.

Verify the number before you send

• Download the current version of your form from interactivebrokers.com and read the fax number off it. A form you saved earlier may name a line that has since moved.
• Check the Client Portal first. Most requests that used to need a form now complete there, and the portal leaves an audit trail IBKR can see.
• Consider the scanned-email route the forms name alongside fax when the form allows it.
• Never fax wire instructions, a full bank routing and account pair, or login credentials. A sent fax cannot be recalled.
