Synchrony Bank Fax Numbers by Department

Synchrony publishes a fax number on the form that requires one rather than listing a general customer-service line. Here is what each published line handles, and how to send your paperwork free from a phone or a computer.

Which Synchrony fax number you need

Synchrony runs two businesses that a customer rarely separates. Synchrony Bank holds the deposit accounts, CDs and IRAs. Synchrony's retail card program issues the store and co-brand cards (CareCredit, Amazon, PayPal, Lowe's and dozens more), serviced through a separate consumer center. They are different departments with different destinations, and a form for one is not processed by the other.

Synchrony publishes no general customer-service fax. Its contact page offers phone, secure message and mail, and the lines above exist because a specific form prints one. So the working rule on this page is Synchrony's own: use the fax number printed on the form you were sent.

The credit-card dispute questionnaire is the case that catches people out. Synchrony issues that questionnaire with its own return fax printed on it, and the copy you were sent is the authority for where it goes. A number circulated on card forums for Synchrony application reconsideration appears on no Synchrony page, so it is not listed here.

What people send to Synchrony by fax

The paperwork that still moves by fax is the paperwork that carries a signature or an attachment:

  • IRA distribution and beneficiary distribution requests, often with a death certificate or a certified copy of a trust
  • Form W-9, when Synchrony asks a deposit customer to certify a taxpayer identification number
  • A dispute questionnaire for a store or co-brand card, with receipts and merchant correspondence attached
  • Power of attorney, guardianship or trust certification forms, where Synchrony prints a return destination on the form
  • Subpoenas and legal process, which go to Subpoena Compliance and nowhere else

Estate notifications have a published online path instead: Synchrony asks for a deceased notification through its website, and the fax printed on the IRA forms is not an estate intake line. Send only what the form asks for. A dispute needs the transaction detail and your supporting documents, not a full card number written out beyond the digits the form requests, and nothing in this set should ever include wire instructions.

These lines take documents in, they do not answer back

Every Synchrony fax destination above is intake only. A person or a scanning queue receives the pages and routes them to the department that acts on them, and Synchrony then replies through its own channels: a letter, a phone call, or a secure message in your account. Nothing comes back to you by fax, and there is no reason to watch a fax inbox for a reply.

That makes the transmission record the thing worth keeping. When you send through FaxTerra you get a delivery receipt showing the destination number, the page count and the time the receiving machine accepted the pages. If Synchrony later has no record of the form, that receipt is what establishes when it was sent.

Verify the number before you send

An IRA distribution form carries your name, address, account number and often a Social Security number. Sending it to a wrong number sends all of that to a stranger, so confirm the destination first:

  • Use the number printed on the form in front of you. It is specific to the department expecting your document, and it beats any general number, including the ones on this page.
  • Call the number on the back of your card or on your statement and ask them to read the fax number back to you.
  • Match the business to the number. A deposit or IRA form does not go to the card program, and a card dispute does not go to deposit operations.
  • Do not use a number from a directory site, a forum thread or a search snippet. Synchrony publishes these itself, and the published version is the one to trust.

How to fax Synchrony Bank with FaxTerra

Create a free FaxTerra account with an email address. Upload your signed form as a PDF or as photos taken with your phone, enter the Synchrony fax number for that department, and send. Save Word documents as PDF first.

A short form sends free within your monthly free pages. A longer packet, such as an IRA distribution request with a death certificate and a trust excerpt, is covered by a one-time credit pack from about 10¢ a page. If you are sending multi-page packets repeatedly, the Starter plan is $4.99/month for 50 pages and includes a fax number of your own. See how to send a fax for accepted file types and page limits, faxing financial documents for the wider process, and the Discover guide for another issuer that publishes department lines on forms rather than on its contact page.

FAQ

Frequently Asked Questions

What is the Synchrony Bank fax number?

There is no single one. Synchrony publishes department lines on the forms that use them: (844) 713-2595 for IRA distribution and beneficiary request forms, (844) 683-7320 for a completed Form W-9, and (866) 743-5850 for service of legal process. There is no general customer-service fax.

How do I fax a Synchrony credit card dispute?

Use the fax number printed on the dispute questionnaire Synchrony sent you. That form carries its own return destination, and the retail card program is serviced separately from Synchrony Bank deposits. Synchrony also accepts disputes through the secure messaging center in your card account.

Will Synchrony fax me back?

No. These lines are intake only. Synchrony responds by letter, phone or secure message in your account. The confirmation you get from faxing is the delivery receipt showing the pages were accepted.

Can I fax estate documents to Synchrony?

Synchrony asks for a deceased notification through its website rather than by fax. The IRA line handles beneficiary distribution requests once the account has been reported, so notify Synchrony first and use the destination it gives you.

How many pages is a typical Synchrony submission?

An IRA distribution or W-9 form runs two to four pages, which is inside the free monthly allowance. A beneficiary claim with a death certificate and trust pages runs longer, and a credit pack from about 10¢ a page covers it.

Is FaxTerra affiliated with Synchrony Bank?

No. FaxTerra is an independent online fax service. We deliver your document to the fax number you enter and confirm when it arrives. We are not affiliated with Synchrony and cannot look up your account.
