Which USAA fax line you need

USAA does not publish a general customer-service fax. The two numbers above are the ones USAA prints on its own documents, and each belongs to a specific team.

Power of attorney. (800) 531-8877 is the number on the USAA Power of Attorney form, which tells you to mail the printed form to Power of Attorney Processing in San Antonio or fax it. Send the POA document and the Identification Form together.

Bank documents. (800) 531-5717 is the number on USAA Federal Savings Bank forms, including the cover sheet for a copy of military orders under the Servicemembers Civil Relief Act and mortgage subordination requests.

Several other things members want to fax have no USAA fax number that USAA itself publishes. Deceased-member paperwork goes to Survivor Relations by phone. Auto loan title and lien release requests are handled through the member site. USAA home loans are subserviced by another company at homeusaa.com, so any fax number on that site belongs to the subservicer, not to USAA. Third-party directories list (800) 531-8877 as USAA's insurance and survivor fax as well; USAA's own documents confirm it only for power of attorney, so treat the wider claim as unverified.

What members send to these lines

The paperwork that still moves by fax is the paperwork that carries a signature or a government document:

  • A durable or limited power of attorney naming an agent, with the Identification Form and the agent photo ID
  • A copy of military orders with the SCRA benefit request cover sheet
  • A mortgage subordination request package
  • Supporting documents a USAA representative has asked you to send in writing

A POA packet with an ID copy typically runs three to six pages. An SCRA request with a full set of orders can run longer.

These lines take documents in, not out

Both numbers are intake lines. Nothing comes back by fax: USAA processes what arrives and follows up through the member site, by phone, or by mail. Do not sit waiting for a fax reply, and do not expect a receipt from USAA.

What you do get is a delivery receipt from FaxTerra, timestamped, recording that the pages were accepted by the receiving machine. That is the record worth keeping if you later have to prove you sent the document on a given day.

Verify the number before you send

A POA packet carries your full name, your agent name, and often a Social Security number. Confirm the destination before it leaves your hands:

  • Use the fax number printed on the USAA form you are actually filling in. That number belongs to the team expecting your document and it beats any number from a directory.
  • USAA steers members to upload documents in the app or on usaa.com, and upload is the faster route when it is offered. Fax is the fallback for documents the upload path does not accept.
  • Never fax wire instructions, a full account number paired with online banking credentials, or a payment-change request that reached you by email. USAA does not ask for those by fax, and a request that looks routine is exactly what wire fraud looks like.
  • If a representative gives you a number over the phone, use theirs and note who gave it to you.

How to fax USAA without a fax machine

Create a free FaxTerra account with an email address. Upload the signed form as a PDF or as photos taken with your phone, enter the USAA fax number for the team you need, and send.

Short documents send free within the 10 free pages every account gets each month. A longer packet is covered by a one-time credit pack from about 10¢ a page, and if you send multi-page packets regularly the Starter subscription covers a monthly page allowance instead. FAQ

Frequently Asked Questions

What is the USAA fax number?

USAA publishes two on its own forms: (800) 531-8877 for Power of Attorney Processing and (800) 531-5717 for USAA Federal Savings Bank documents. There is no general customer-service fax.

Can I fax a death certificate to USAA?

USAA publishes no fax number for deceased-member documents. Survivor Relations handles those by phone, and the team will tell you where to send what. Numbers circulating on third-party sites for this purpose do not appear on any USAA document we can verify.

Does USAA prefer fax or an upload?

Upload, where the app or usaa.com offers it for your document type. USAA points members there first. Fax is the published fallback for the forms that name a fax number, such as the power of attorney packet.

Will USAA confirm it received my fax?

Not by fax. The line is intake only. Your record of sending is the delivery receipt, which shows the destination number and the time the pages were accepted.

Is FaxTerra affiliated with USAA?

No. FaxTerra is an independent online fax service. We deliver your document to the number you enter and confirm when it arrives. We cannot see your USAA account or check the status of your request.
