TIAA Fax Number for Documents

One line, with one condition

TIAA is one of the few large retirement providers that publishes a fax number on its contact page rather than only on forms: (800) 914-8922, listed under “Send by fax.”

One condition comes with it. TIAA’s withdrawal FAQ says forms can be faxed when your bank information is already on file. If it is not, the form has to be mailed, because TIAA needs the original banking documentation to set up the payment destination. That single rule decides whether your form qualifies for fax, so check it before you send.

TIAA Brokerage is a separate service and its forms can carry their own return instructions. If your form is a brokerage form, read its instruction block rather than assuming the general line.

What people fax to TIAA

The forms that name the document line are the account-servicing ones:

• Lump-sum cash withdrawal requests
• Systematic cash withdrawal setup and changes
• Transfer and rollover forms
• EFT authorization for direct deposit of payments
• Address-change and name-change certifications
• Death notification forms

A withdrawal form with identification and a spousal-consent page commonly runs four to eight pages, which is at or just past the free monthly allowance. One credit pack covers the difference.

The line takes documents in, it does not answer

TIAA’s document fax is an intake line. Pages arrive, a processor works them in turn, and TIAA responds by mail, by phone, or in your account. Nothing comes back by fax and there is no fax acknowledgment that your form landed.

Verify the number before you send

• Check whether your bank information is on file with TIAA. If it is not, the form must be mailed rather than faxed.
• Read the return-instructions block on your own form. Brokerage forms and plan-specific forms can name a different destination.
• Write your TIAA account or contract number on the cover page so intake can match the pages.
• Never fax wire instructions, a full bank routing and account pair, or login credentials. A sent fax cannot be recalled.
